According to Brian Woronuik, the owner of Trauma Scene Clean Up in Delta, the job requires the ability to set your own emotions aside while at the same time maintaining compassion for the trauma experienced by others.

“You keep your attention on the task at hand, act professionally while retaining your detachment, and carry out the necessary actions. Woronuik, who established his business in 1998, argues that it is important to prevent people from experiencing further stress.

“Afterward, we may get people who cry on our shoulders, give us hugs, and say, ‘I don’t know what I would have done without you.” Crime scene cleaners are tasked with disinfecting virtually any location where human beings have been injured, became ill, or passed away.

Homeowners in their own homes make up what is likely the single largest client base.

One of the most prevalent cause for families to seek assistance is to clean up after a suicide, followed by house invasions and murders. In addition to sterilizing conference centres, ski lodges, hospitals, and police cars, these top-tier cleaners are also responsible for cleaning grow-ops. In addition, Woronuik receives phone calls from cruise lines that are dealing with norovirus.

“We can super-sanitize an entire cruise ship in a day,” Woronuik says. “We have four full-time staff but can call on up to 40 people for a job.”

The cleaning up process could take as little as a few hours. However, if there is evidence that fluid from a decomposing body has seeped into the walls and floor boards of a room, the space may need to be demolished and reconstructed. This kind of restoration typically takes many weeks and costs tens of thousands of dollars.
